ABOUT The 7 Archetypes of Yin
Yin Yoga is a simple practice of quiet and surrender, a practice of settling into a posture for 3-7 minutes, relaxing the body’s resistance, allowing the deeper, drier tissues, the fascia that wrap muscles and form joint capsules, to be safely and therapeutically stretched, hydrated and strengthened, and a practice of deep rest for the body, and a refuge for the mind and heart. Yin Yoga is a functional practice. Guiding students toward simplicity and surrender can be challenging. It requires an appreciation and general understanding of the infinite complexity of human variation. Physically, mentally and emotionally, every Yogi is unique and requires a unique approach. Realizing this, founder of Yin Yoga Paul Grilley developed a system of fluid Target Areas and 7 Archetypes. In this practice, Joe will take you through an experiential exploration of the possible forms and functions of the fluid shapes within each of the 7 Archetypes of Yin Yoga. About Joe Barnett: Joe Barnett, ERYT-500, has been teaching for nearly two decades and has certifications in Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga and Acro Yoga. Joe’s primary focus of study is Functional Anatomy for Yoga and all forms of movement. He is a senior student and the primary assistant of Paul Grilley, his mentor of 25 years, a true Yogi Scientist who is largely responsible for the current rise in the popularity of Yin Yoga and Functional Anatomy. Joe continues to travel nationally and internationally throughout the year, assisting his teacher as well as offering his own presentations at studios and conferences all over the world. Most recently, Joe has been integrating Yin Yoga with ancient and modern techniques for better sleeping, dreaming, dying and living. These workshops on the power of surrender and the rebound of rest, restoration and rejuvenation continue to expand. |
