We condition our bodies to embody strength and flexibility in optimal alignment to create various shapes with our bodies in yoga. But the truth is, that these forms we make on our mat can relate to, support, and sustain our day-to-day activities—getting in and out of the car, sitting up and down, picking something up, reaching/turning back, etc. Functional movement not only addresses how we perform on the mat, but also how we move in our daily lives.
In this workshop, we will explore range of motion, limitations, and tendencies in our own bodies in order to help us create mindful movement patterns that support mobility and strength. We will use special props like resistance bands and massage balls (provided) to explore familiar and new movement methods to fully embody form and function, both on and off the mat.
Prerequisites: None; all are welcome. This workshop is especially great for beginners, and those who have limited range of motion due to injury, life, habits, etc., as well as fully able bodies.
Jenn has over 900 hours of training in Vinyasa, Hatha, Anusara, and yoga therapeutics. Her practice and teaching styles are constantly evolving due to her interest in and study with various teachers and modules of yoga, but one thing that remains as a constant is her passion for human anatomy, biomechanics, and functional mobility. Her classes are infused with detailed alignment cues; a combination of traditional yoga postures and new, explorative approaches to achieve mobility (flexibility and strength) and body awareness; mindful, creative, intentional sequences—all packaged within a fun, safe, and thought-provoking environment.
