Somatic Meditation
with Sarah Cotten, SEP

Deepen relaxation and awakening in your life by cultivating a meditation practice. In this class, you will learn:

  • what somatic awareness is and how to use it to befriend the body, calm the nervous system and deepen meditation
  • a Buddhist framework for accessing more self-compassion, kindness and freedom
  • how to sustain a daily mediation practice

This class is appropriate for beginners and experienced meditators who want to deepen their practice.

Yoga blankets, blocks and mats will be available for sitting on. If you have a favorite meditation cushion, feel free to bring it.

Each class, we will do a little gentle yoga to awaken the body prior to sitting, so please wear clothes that are comfortable for movement.

Instructor Bio

Sarah Cotten is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and holistic and functional medicine expert.  She has practiced Buddhist and yogic meditation since 1995. Her primary teachers are Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. Through them, she follows the Thai Forest tradition of Theravaden Buddhism and Insight Meditation. Sarah is an embodiment specialist and was a yoga teacher for 15 years. She leads meditation with a focus on body awareness. Through this we learn what compassion, resilience and joy really feel like, in the body. These then become resources we can easily draw upon in relationship with others and in our lives.
Sarah honors the Asian roots of both mindfulness meditation and somatic awareness. She aims to create a space that is inclusive, fair and accessible for people of all races, gender orientations, abilities, faiths and beliefs. Sarah is a trauma-sensitive meditation teacher and teaches with great gentleness and compassion.
