Surya Yantrasana - Compass/Sundial Pose
In this workshop, Darren and Jenn will mesh and meld each of their unique teaching styles to guide the path straight toward surya yantrasana (sundial/compass pose), with likely many detours along the way. Explore both the shadow and light—of yourself, this pose, the practice, the Work—and make skillful choices that best serve your dharma. Whether you can touch your toes or not, you’ll access the essence of what compass has to pose proffer! “It is a shadow on a sundial that tells the time. Similarly, it is our shadows, or darknesses, that can reveal the next step that we must undertake on our spiritual path. A yogin must navigate and not negate the dark side of practicing the dharma. One of the benefits of advanced asana is that we are required to make skillful choices in the mist of muck and mire… All that hatha yoga has to offer can be found in the basic poses. The more advanced poses are not more valuable.” — Darren Rhodes, Yoga Resource Darren Rhodes, E-RYT 500, has been the director of YogaOasis in Tucson since 1999. His book, The Yoga Resource Practice Manual, includes practice instructions for 360 poses. Darren is the founder of Yogahour® and was named one of Yoga Journal’s “21 Talented Young Teachers Shaping the Future of Yoga.” Jenn Bemis has over 900 hours of training in several different schools of yoga including Vinyasa, Hatha, Anusara, and yoga therapeutics (500RYT), and has been teaching since 2009. Jenn’s classes are infused with precise and detailed alignment cues, while keeping the fluid Vinyasa form of breath and movement within creative, mindful, and intentional sequences. |
