Yin Yoga Anatomy:
Swans and Frogs, an interactive study
WITH JOE BARNETT

ABOUT A Functional Analysis of a Yin Practice: Are you more of an Internal Rotator or an External Rotator? How about your students and yoga buddies? Our hip sockets and femur heads vary greatly between people. Every body is unique. Every body should therefore execute the postures uniquely. This interactive study of skeletal variations will offer a better understanding of the distinct ways you and each of your individual students and/or friends spiral. But more importantly, it may lead to more effective techniques for a regular therapeutic maintenance of a variety of hips. In the first half of this workshop, Joe Barnett will share the wisdom of his long time mentor Paul Grilley using Joe’s own method of guided and personalized anatomical study. This hour offers some tools to realize one’s own unique anatomy and the analytic skills to help guide others into an exploration of their beautiful uniqueness. The second half of class is experiential. We will explore different archetypal asanas using the same method. We will also land in the deepening quiet and stillness of each person’s appropriate and functional shape. And finally, we will take the time to feel the rebound of healing energy within our mindful transitions and deep rests between the efforts of surrender. About Joe Barnett: Joe Barnett, ERYT-500, has been teaching for nearly two decades and has certifications in Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga and Acro Yoga. Joe’s primary focus of study is Functional Anatomy for Yoga and all forms of movement. He is a senior student and the primary assistant of Paul Grilley, his mentor of 25 years, a true Yogi Scientist who is largely responsible for the current rise in the popularity of Yin Yoga and Functional Anatomy. Joe continues to travel nationally and internationally throughout the year, assisting his teacher as well as offering his own presentations at studios and conferences all over the world. Most recently, Joe has been integrating Yin Yoga with ancient and modern techniques for better sleeping, dreaming, dying and living. These workshops on the power of surrender and the rebound of rest, restoration and rejuvenation continue to expand. |
