YOU ARE HERE Self-Regulation through Yoga Postures, Breath Work, and Meditation Self-regulation is the ability to rebound from challenging or activating events, emotions, or circumstances, and to act in a way consistent with one’s values and authentic self. It is a major component of emotional intelligence. Self-regulation can be challenging for people who had difficult upbringings, have suffered from significant trauma, and for many other reasons. Self-regulation involves being able to pause between feeling and action, taking time to check in with oneself and regulate the nervous system before acting. In this 90 minute full spectrum practice, we will learn how to use this practice to help self-regulate by listening to our wise bodies and by paying attention to the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our whole selves. What we learn on our mats can be applied to our daily lives, helping to offer even just a little more peace, especially when we find ourselves in the midst of turbulence. This practice is friendly to all levels of practitioners. The yoga asana portion of the practice will consist of basic standing, seated, and reclined postures, with the option to utilize props. The breath work portion of this practice will include very basic breathing techniques that can (and are encouraged to) be used in daily life. The meditation portion of this practice will include both guided and silent elements. The postures, breath work, and meditation will be woven together throughout the practice for a fully integrated experience. About Ashley Gee When I began my yoga journey, I had just begun exploring the questions, "who am I?" and "what am I doing here?". Without expecting it to, the practice has taught me how to ease my anxieties, listen to my body, and to ultimately take better care of myself. My aim is to create a supportive and safe environment where you can freely explore yourself, take what you need, and leave the rest. I am grateful for the teachers who both challenged and inspired me on my path. Aside from teaching yoga, I am also a Licensed Acupuncturist, currently practicing in the Tucson area.
